How to Wear…. A Classic White Button Up Shirt Four Ways

KKWhiteshirt

Recently I had a reader ask me to help her with a dilemma.  With the upcoming holiday season she had many different occasions to attend but didn’t have the budget to get a new outfit for every event.  She wanted to know the easiest way to change her outfit up, using a few of her favourite pieces as the core, without breaking the bank.  I thought this would be a great time for me to share my two cents with you all.  For the sake of this article I’ll use a white button up shirt as the core piece, its simple, easy, versatile, and not to mention in the video below (we’ll keep with it for consistency 😉 ).

Casual-Boyfriend

Starting with a casual everyday look, tuck in the shirt in some coloured denim and add a wicked belt! I love braided belts, they add a boho chic touch and detail to everyday coloured denim. If its chilly out, add a knit cardigan.  Some flats on your feet and you’re ready to go!  If you really want to go casual and comfy, switch out the tight denim for a boyfriend fit in a distressed wash and keep the shirt untucked, cute flats or sneakers are a go!

Trendy- Boho Chic

Wanna be a bit more trendy?! Tuck the white shirt in to a maxi skirt and add a denim jacket! Instantly you exude cool confidence!

Night Look- Going Out

For a night time look, pair the white shirt with a pair of skinny denim or leggings (I personally looooove the leather leggings they use for Look #1 in the video, mine are in the mail as we speak!)  Add a blazer or crop jacket (leather is bad ass) and some heels.  Throw on some statement accessories such as a necklace and/or ring and you’re set!

Business- Upper East Side

To dress it up, tuck in the white shirt in a skirt, either a pencil skirt or pleated (once again love love love the skirt in the video used in Look #2), add a belt or not depending upon how high the skirt sits (on your true waist, yes to the belt, on your hips, no to the belt thats too casual). Wear nylons and a cute pair of pumps or booties.  A boyfriend blazer or tweed coat will keep you warm!  Keep the accessories simple, such as a classic pair of diamond stud earrings or classic cut ring.
