January 18, 2014- 3 Workout Hair Styles (…That Aren’t Just Your Regular Ponytail!)

Working out has always been something I’ve loved to do in my free time! If you’re workin’ hard there’s no way you’re going to by pass gettin’ sweaty, but why not look cute while you’re working your buns?! Found this great post from FP Naomi on BLDG 25, 3 Workout Hair Styles that are just as killer as your right hook!

Who has a New Year’s resolution to get in shape? Are you finding that commitment waning after passing the two week mark? That’s why you have to spice up the routine. Play games with yourself, make it something new. Mess around with new hairstyles that will make you feel good at the gym. Ok, it may be a way of procrastinating before actually hitting the treadmill, but who cares?! As long as you get a workout in, we’re good. Here are three (easy) hair tricks to make you a bit more enthused for your next gym visit.

Step One: Throw your hair into a high ponytail for each hairstyle. We all have this one down. I told you these would be easy ;).

Step Two (The Killer Fishtail): Instead of turning your pony into a regular braid, try a fishtail. It adds interest to the look, and gives a tough sporty vibe.

Step Three (The Ballet Bun): Don’t undo your fishtail! This time, wrap it around the base of your pony to make a bun. Use bobby pins to secure. I love how elegant this one is. Perfect for a Pilates or barre class!

Step Four (Four Snakes): Go back to the beginning and start with a ponytail. Split the pony into four sections and turn each into its own braid. This is another one that will make you feel tough. Heading to the boxing gym or just need some extra confidence? This is the one for you.

Happy gym-ing everyone!

July 19, 2013– 4 Tricks To Make Perfume Last All Day

Girl-holding-perfume

Who doesn’t love to smell good!? Love perfume. It’s so cool how a signature scent adds to the ambiance of who you are, and one that people remember you by. Scent is the most powerful memory trigger. Just one small trace of a scent can take your mind right back to a specific place, event, person, or period of time. Right now I wear Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy scent.  When I move on to my next scent, whenever that may be, this scent will always bring me back to where I am in my life right now.

The issue I have with perfume, though, is that I can never seem to make the scent last all day. I get a beautiful whiff when I apply it in the morning, but the scent diminishes as the hours go by, and soon enough it seems to disappear altogether. I went on a mission to solve this problem, and found out that I’d been doing it all wrong! There are a bunch of things you can do to make that gorgeous scent of yours last all day. Here’s how:

1. Moisturize that skin.

Lotion-and-perfume-2

If you have naturally oily skin, you’re in luck — a scent will last much longer on you. For those of you with dry skin, find out if your scent comes in lotion form, and use that first for maximum scent capacity. If it doesn’t come in a lotion, first use an unscented moisturizer on damp skin wherever you plan to apply your scent.

2. Apply to pulse points.

Where-to-apply-perfume

Heat is what activates perfume. The pulse points on your body (where your heart rate can be felt) are the best spots to apply a scent, due to the warmth of your blood. Some such points are located behind your ear, at the bottom of your throat, on your wrist, inside your elbow, and behind your knee.

3. Don’t rub.

Dont-rub-perfume

After applying a fragrance, many people feel a need to rub it in in order to warm the skin or spread the scent. This is a big mistake! Rubbing a perfume breaks down its molecules, diminishing the scent into thin air.

4. Store it the right way.

Storing-perfume1

Heat, light, and humidity can all break down the compounds in a perfume, causing it to be less fragrant. To keep your scent at its best, store it in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. Make sure to keep it out of the bathroom, as the heat and humidity from showers and baths could damage it greatly.

Do you have any tricks for making perfume last longer? Let us know! And while you’re at it, tell us what your signature scent is. 🙂

June 22, 2013– Just Beachy!

Summer is here and its time for a hair make over! I’m loving the beachy look! Beach waves are definitely in, AND easy to do! Here’s a little something I saw on Pinterest and had to share.  I found this solution works great, but if your hair is naturally straight try scrunching (after you spray in the sea spray) from the tips of your hair up, and then mid-crown to root.  Also, another helpful tip, do all of this when you’re hair is semi-dry/wet, seems to hold better! This will be sure to maximize your wave!

pastelnails

As soon as the holiday season is over I can’t wait for spring to come! Winter blues start to take over and all I want are bright tones, fun patterns, and summer vacation!  I can’t stand the cold, dark evenings and dark mornings, so to bring in some sunshine bright spring coloured nails are it!

The first colours that come to mind are spring pastels, mellow yellows, mint greens, and pretty pinks!  These colours are subtle but add a bright light to your everyday look!  Say bye bye to monochromatic tones and winter wardrobe.  If you’re with me in fighting the winter blues use these colours as a refresh for spring!

diy-wedding-hairpiece-ideas I’m OBSESSED with sparkle! I love it even more to top off a great hair style! So versatile you can dress it up or down depending upon how many you choose to wear. Here’s how to make one of these accessories on your own (great idea for weddings, events, or just everyday!):

  1. Visit vintage jewelry stores, flea markets, or dig out you’re favourite delicate pendents, brooches, and pins
  2. Arrange and place in the pins and brooches, securing them with bobby pins, et voila!

vintage brooches

If you already have a plain brooch or pin and want to spice it up, using a hot glue gun, glue on jewels and delicate little pieces on it! Feathers are also a great addition!
